Philip Fox RoseMy name is Phil Fox Rose. I am or have been a writer, editor, political strategist, videographer, tech journalist, mac tech, web developer, software designer, sheepherder, and music programmer. What I really do is learn about stuff, figure it out and then tell others what I know. This site (philfoxrose.com) is a container for my essays related to culture, spirituality, politics, gender and technology. (For shameless self-promotion and action verbs, go here to check out my non-linear resume, or click here to download a PDF of my regular-style resume.) E-me at fromsite@pfrose.com.

Most of my 20 years of writing, if not lost, is in hard-copy clippings, dozens of notebooks, part of a book, four computers, and various badly labeled, or more likely unlabeled, backup disks - Zip, CD, and floppy (3.5" & 5.25"). Along with new work, I'm posting the small subset of old stuff that is either still relevant or at least entertaining, as I find it.

Here are a few pictures (there's a whole photo album section here):

See how intellectual I am, with all the books and stuff.

Grymalkin

Grymalkin was my love. She passed away on February 2nd, 2006 at 18. Grem was a pure-bred Maine Coon show kitten who didn't cut it as an adult competitor. She was the sweetest, smartest cat I've ever known, and I was with her longer than any other being, including my parents.

Bingen

Bingen is kitten-sized but she's no kitten — she's about 14. Bing never got bigger because she had malnourishment and parasites in the first months of her life. It may have affected her brain too, or maybe she's just nuts naturally, but I love her anyway.

junior high graduation picture

I discovered my junior high graduation picture online. Pretty scary! But then they took it down. Don't know why - privacy, bandwidth, I don't know. But I had downloaded it and here it is. So, can you tell which one I am. I think you can.

Bad Brains with DJ Phil Rose

Yup, that's me DJ Phil Rose spinning for all the straight-edge kids at a Bad Brains show back in the day. I didn't DJ professionally again until I did the downtempo music programming at Clickradio a few years ago. This is a really well known flyer from New York punk. It's been reprinted on t-shirts and in the book F*cked Up & Photocopied. (I'm guessing its popularity has something to do with that great picture of the Bad Brains, not my name.)
